Waikato Sunrise Rotary (WSR) is committed to empowering youth across the Waikato, fostering resilience, confidence, and leadership. As part of this commitment, WSR was proud to provide $1,500 in funding to support St Peters Sea Scout Group in advancing youth leadership development.

This funding has enabled the Group Leader to participate in advanced leadership training, equipping them with the skills to guide and inspire the next generation of Scouts. Scouting challenges young people to push beyond their perceived limits, building independence,

resilience, and self-belief—sometimes even surprising their parents with what they can achieve!

The impact of this leadership training will extend far beyond just one individual. By upskilling their leader, countless youth in the community will benefit over the coming years, reinforcing the positive cycle of growth and development that Scouting provides. This initiative aligns perfectly with WSR’s mission of supporting youth development and strengthening communities.

The St Peters Sea Scout Group has already been recognised for its excellence, being named one of New Zealand’s top 15 Sea Scout groups in January. This prestigious Royal New Zealand Navy Recognition was awarded for outstanding performance in both Scouting and seamanship, highlighting the group’s dedication to developing skilled and resilient young leaders.

The grant was provided as part of WSR’s October funding round, with another round currently open for applications until the end of March. We encourage community groups and initiatives that align with our mission to apply, as we continue striving to support and uplift as many young people as possible.
