About Waikato Sunrise

Regular Rotary Meetings

Meetings are held each Friday morning at the Ferrybank Reception Centre on Grantham Street (which is off the southern end of Victoria Street). The meeting starts at 6:45am with fellowship, for a 7:00am breakfast. Meetings are programmed to conclude by 8:15am.

Attendance

Attendance at and participation in meetings is encouraged.

Financial Commitment

Being a member of Waikato Sunrise Rotary carries with it some financial commitment. This includes:

  1. an annual subscription fee
  2. the cost of breakfasts
  3. the cost of any other social activities

Community Service

Waikato Sunrise Rotary looks for opportunities to become involved in community projects or provide community support in Hamilton or overseas. In recent years we have :

  • Sent 2 working parties of Rotarians to villages in Fiji to help refurbish school buildings.
  • Supported the Zeal project – a drop-in centre (to foster creative arts – music, art, song) being provided for youth in Hamilton.
  • Completed a peace garden (a shaded area beside the school swimming pool) at Melville Primary School.
  • Provided dictionaries into Crawshaw and Melville Primary Schools for year 4 students.
  • Hosted a Vanuatu boy for an operation to correct his club feet – a ROMAC project.

Fundraising Activities

Waikato Sunrise Rotary fundraises in order to contribute towards various worthy causes. Our primary focus is on youth development and this is where we channel the majority of our fundraised money. Two of our major fundraising activities are:

Montana Catering logoMontana Catering: One of our key fundraising contracts is with Montana Catering and involves Rotary providing hospitality services at key sporting events in the city. This is a hands-on commitment and all members are encouraged to participate regularly.

Circus Quircus logoCircus Quircus: this is a professionally-telemarketed fundraiser for underprivileged children to attend a human circus. It is held annually in Founders Theatre. Members participate by assisting with ushering at the event.

Social Activities

We have an active social committee who arrange a variety of formal and informal activities throughout the year. All members are invited and encouraged to participate in these activities as they greatly improve the camaraderie.
